Robert Fogel

Robert Fogel, Nobel laureate and economic historian perhaps best known for his work on the economics of slavery, has passed away.

  1. One of the things Fogels work does is to remind us constantly that (economic) efficiency need not tell us anything about the morality or justice of economic arrangements (see his great, great book, Without Consent or Contract).

His work on nutrition is also extraordinarily important, and has led to a huge literature.
